Stan H. Retif, CFRE


Stan RetifStan Retif began his career in development at Tulane University in his hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana. At Tulane, Stan quickly ascended to the position of Director of Annual Giving and led the effort to raise the $13 million annual component of the University’s successful $150 million sesquicentennial effort, The Campaign for Tulane.

Mr. Retif’s career in institutional advancement spans more than 30 years, having held senior level positions in education, religion and human services.  In 1994 he was recruited to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, having successfully led the Archdiocese of New Orleans in its most successful campaign initiative to date, the $20 million Bicentennial Endowment Campaign.

After nine months in Philadelphia, Stan was elevated to the position of Secretary for External Affairs, expanding his development portfolio to include direct oversight for the Offices of Communications, Government Affairs, Public Relations and the archdiocesan newspaper – The Catholic Standard & Times. Under Mr. Retif’s leadership, the Archdiocese would bring its $100 million Catholic Life 2000 campaign to a successful conclusion.  For his efforts, he would later be recognized with the papal honor, the Order of Saint Gregory the Great.

For the past eight years, Stan has held senior level positions at major human services organizations in the Greater Philadelphia region, including Vice President for Development & Communications at Woods Services, where he led that organization to the most successful capital campaign in its 100-year history.

Recently returning to the educational arena, Stan is currently working in support of EducationWorks, an organization that seeks to help children in some of the most distressed areas of Philadelphia and Chester, Pennsylvania, as well as Camden and Trenton, New Jersey.

In December 2012, Mr. Retif was elected President of the Greater Philadelphia Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.  Most recently, he has entered into an Of Counsel relationship with Ruotolo Associates of Cresskill, New Jersey.

Stan received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Tulane University and was a Fellow in Loyola University’s Institute of Politics.  Stan and Sherri Retif reside in Lower Gwynedd, Pennsylvania.  They have two children, Bender and Cameron.
