Director of Development – Summit Speech School (New Providence, NJ)

Organization Summary

Summit Speech School, located in New Providence, New Jersey, was founded in 1967 with a mission to “enable children who are deaf or hard of hearing to take their place in a hearing world by providing superior educational and therapeutic support services through an auditory/oral program.”

The school services more than 130 children from birth through high school annually. These children reside in communities throughout northern and central New Jersey.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Development is responsible for leading Summit Speech School’s fundraising efforts, including the creation and execution of all aspects of the annual development plan and prioritization of departmental activities to attain budget goals.

The Director of Development will work with the Board of Trustees Development Committee to establish, prioritize and develop fundraising activities that meet budgetary goals, the highest ethical standards, and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage, and report on a program for annual contributions to the school so that regular sources of revenue can be secured and which will grow a broad base of support.
  • Inspire the volunteer leadership and committees to participate in activities in support of the school.
  • Develop and maintain the highest levels of team work within the Development Office, and ensure a high level of collaboration between the Development Office and other departments and volunteers.
  • Identify, research, cultivate and participate in meetings with key donors and grantors.
  • Develop, plan and manage special fund raising campaigns for designated projects.
  • Provide for stewardship of funds contributed to the school.
  • Design and implement community relations programs for internal and external publics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum seven years experience in development/fundraising, with a track record of success with individual and institutional donors.
  • Strong management skills.
  • Familiarity with New Jersey’s philanthropic community.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and supporting development efforts of board members, board committees, and volunteers.
  • Adept at furthering community awareness of an organization’s mission.
  • Extraordinary writing and public speaking abilities.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge.
