Diocese of Allentown (PA) Search for Secretary for Stewardship and Development

Reporting to the Vicar General, the Secretary for Stewardship and Development will direct and coordinate the fund-raising programs of the Diocese and its agencies.  The position will also work closely with the Secretary for Catholic Education to advance schools within the Diocese.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Bishop’s Annual Appeal.
  • Direct all Diocesan Development Programs.
    • Recommend policy, systems and procedures for all Development offices.
    • Oversee the recruitment of Development/Advancement Professionals at Diocesan locations.
  • In partnership with the Secretaries for Catholic Education and Temporal Services, provide leadership and direction for the Catholic School System in the Diocese of Allentown.
  • Provide direction for the Holy Family Manor and Catholic Charities Development function and support the Secretary for Catholic Human Services with Board Development.
  • Provide direction for the existing Endowment for the Care of Retired and Infirm Priests Campaign.
  • Advise pastors on the best practices to promote Stewardship at their parish.
  • Advise the Diocese on strategic fund-raising policy and direction.
  • Act as the Diocesan liaison to the Board of the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Pennsylvania.
  • Serve as a resource for all parishes requesting fund-raising advice and counsel for capital campaigns and increased offertory programs.

 Qualifications:

  • BA (required)
  • Professional certification (CFRE) is a plus.
  • A minimum of five years in planning and administering fund-raising programs (planned giving, annual giving, or capital campaigns, etc.) of which two have been in a supervisory or management capacity and working with volunteers.
  • Experience with major gifts and planned giving.
  • Experience leading a major capital campaign.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work with all levels of staff and volunteers.
  • The ability to set priorities along with strong organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • A high degree of credibility, integrity, and self-confidence is essential.
