Dominican Academy, New York, NY, Seeks Director of Development

The Director of Development works with the Administration and the Development Committee of the Board to plan, structure and implement a comprehensive development program.  These elements include direct mail, grant research and writing, major gifts, special events, print and electronic communications, and planned giving.


  • Manages daily operations for the Development Office.
  • Provide leadership in conceiving and implementing a comprehensive development program including timeline and measurable outcomes.
  • Works with Administration to identify the needs and develop a case for support.
  • Plans and facilitates the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major gift donor prospects.
  • Builds an annual fund/direct mail program with strategic efforts to renew and upgrade annual fund donors.
  • Manages all grant writing including research, the writing of proposals and the completion of post-grant accountability reports.
  • Directs the gift stewardship process including the procedures for the recording of gifts in a database and their timely and accurate acknowledgement.
  • Strengthens alumnae participation in the Academy’s mission through the Class Representative Program, personal contact and recruitment for school committees and events.
  • Manages the production of Veritas, occasional e-blasts, the annual report and other forms of communications.
  • Coordinates the planned giving program including identification, marketing and cultivation, development of gift acceptance policies, solicitation and recognition of donors.
  • Oversees the planning of all special events with staff and committee from the budget, plans and strategies for the event, to staffing, acknowledgments, and financial reports.


  • BA (required)
  • 5+ years of experience in development
  • Excellent organizational, managerial, along with written and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database platforms
  • Evidence of ability to successfully grow a development program
  • Evening/weekend work occasionally required as well as travel to cultivate donors
